Data encryption is the sole purpose of these two cloud encryption tools. Boxcryptor and Cryptomator are used primarily to ensure your data is kept safe in the cloud, no matter your cloud service providers. All these have been made possible due to their various security-related and encryption technologies. Go to the Boxcryptor Settings β General β Encryption and switch on Use filename encryption. Existing files without filename encryption will remain unchanged. Please use one of our desktop clients to activate filename encryption for your existing files.
Boxcryptor Filename Encryption Tools
The service works by taking files that are stored in cloud locations and it encrypts them using AES-256 and RSA encryption algorithms to secure the data. To set up Boxcryptor, simply install the app, choose which cloud platforms to encrypt and select filename encryption (not available in the free version). Encrypting files is easy enough, simply right-click Boxcryptor Encrypt and it will do the rest. You can also encrypt your files automatically by dragging them to the Boxcryptor folder that gets created at first use that we mentioned earlier. Itβs recommended to not store your encrypted files at the root level of the Boxcryptor drive.
